The Promise: The Unfinished Poetry of Becoming with Dan Speers

The incomparable Dan Speers, award winning poet laureate of Haverhill gives an intimate performance tracing a poet’s lifelong conversation with literature, memory, and time. "The Promise" relies on Dan’s own cultural inheritance. Many of his stories and poems are based upon tales and influences garnered from both indigenous and European ancestors, and their interesting, amusing and often conflicting opinions and judgments. And, of course, there is an intriguing North Andover connection. From the newsprint roll of Jack Kerouac to imagined dialogues with Whitman, Whittier, and Dickinson, Dan Speers explores the promises we inherit, the ones we make, and the ones we spend a lifetime trying to keep.
