Craft Happy Hour Hand Quilting Techniques with Lizz Freeman

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore techniques used in quilt-making and sewn assemblage, including improvisational composition, appliqué stitching and hand quilting. Using naturally dyed linen and other provided materials, participants will create a small-scale quilt suitable as a wall hanging, doll quilt or cat mat while gaining an introduction to foundational textile practices. Her multi-disciplinary practice began with photography and has evolved to encompass textile arts, printmaking, and installation. Her decades-long work with clothing produced an archive of thousands of fabric swatches from which she draws to create her complex and intriguing sewn assemblages. She teaches and has a studio practice in New Orleans, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
