Three decades ago the members of O.A.R. (Of A Revolution), lead vocalist/guitarist Marc Roberge, drummer Chris Culos, guitarist Richard On, bassist Benj Gershman, and saxophonist/guitarist Jerry DePizzo, started something that would change the lives of music lovers forever. Theirs is a joyfully communal spirit that’s transcendent for both the artists and audience alike. An experience that has brought with it the ability to sell out legendary venues like Madison Square Garden on more than one occasion. For the band, the work of endlessly uplifting their followers is equal parts responsibility and immense privilege, a dynamic Marc Roberge considers essential to their longevity. “Apart from communicating, I think the number one thing you need to keep a band going is to really appreciate and find joy in what you do, and that’s absolutely the case with us. We don’t ever take any of it for granted.” This August O.A.R. returns to celebrate three decades of sax-soaked jams, pop rock hooks and sing-along choruses that swell from a sway to full hands-in-the-air refrains.
