@ Experience the rich, expressive tones of the cello as Poetica Musica presents “The Song of the Cello.” Renowned cellist Eugene Moye joins pianist Yasmin Alami for an evening of masterful performances featuring works by Brahms, Casals, Rachmaninoff, Mendelssohn, and others. The program includes Johannes Brahms’ Cello Sonata No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 38, Pablo Casals’ “The Song of the Birds,” Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise,” and additional selections celebrating the depth, warmth, and versatility of this beloved instrument. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Eugene Moye, cellist, is principal cello of the American Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, the Opera Orchestra of New York, and the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist, he has premiered a cello concerto by François Thorne at Carnegie Hall, the “Millennium Concerto” by Harold Farberman at Avery Fisher Hall, and a concerto by David Baker with the New York Philharmonic. Following his recital at the 92nd Street Y, The New York Times praised Moye as one of the “foremost cellists of his generation.” In addition to his classical career, he has collaborated with many of the world’s leading popular artists, including Ricky Martin, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks, and KISS on recordings, live performances, and videos. Eugene Moye Yasmin Alami, a Jordanian pianist, has been described as a “truly remarkable and extremely musical young pianist” by renowned pianist and conductor Philippe Entremont. She has performed extensively in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, appearing with the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music Series, St. Roch for the Arts Series, Benderly Concert Series–Santa Cruz Foundation of the Arts, Friends of Jordan Piano Festival, and the Palm Beach Atlantic International Piano Festival. Her international engagements include performances in Jordan, Belgium, Portugal, and France, including a private recital honoring Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan Ali. Alami was awarded first prize as a soloist at the Concours Régional d’Orléans in France. Yasmin Alami Tickets & Information A pre-concert talk will proceed the concert at 7:30pm.
