About the Talk: Join researcher Dr. Rocio Servin-Vences and Northwestern University Brain Awareness Outreach (NUBAO) for an accesible talk on the gut-brain axis and how our gut senses information. Following Dr. Rocio Servin-Vences's talk, you'll have the opportunity to participate in an audience-led Q&A. About Dr. Rocio Servin-Vences: Dr. Maria Rocio Servin-Vences studies how neural circuits connecting the gut and the brain regulate health and disease. Her research focuses on spinal and enteric innervation and how these nerves interact with gut-resident cells to maintain homeostasis and respond to stress. A key goal of her work is to understand how disruptions in gut–brain communication contribute to inflammation, metabolic disorders, and gastrointestinal disease. About NUBAO: Northwestern University Brain Awareness Outreach (NUBAO) is a public outreach initiative founded in 2010 by Northwestern University's Interdepartmental Neuroscience (NUIN) PhD students dedicated to educating, exciting, and inspiring the Chicago community about the brain. Through collaborations with public schools and science education programs in the Chicago area, NUBAO organizes a number of hands-on lectures, workshops, and open house-style events in an effort to teach a variety of neuroscience topics to students of all ages and their families. The NUBAO volunteer base consists of a diverse group of mostly graduate students, in addition to undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, faculty, and research staff from numerous departments and scientific disciplines at Northwestern University.
