Class #350: Oil Painting – The Art of Surfaces with Andrew Conklin

Time : 6:30PM – 9:00PM CDT on Thu — This course explores the observation and painting of specific surface textures in oil, including water, wood grain, marble, and glass. Through focused studies, students will examine how light, color, transparency, pattern, and surface variation influence the appearance of each material. Each texture will be painted individually, allowing students to develop techniques for accurately conveying its distinct visual qualities. The course concludes with a two-session still-life project, painting from life the range of textures explored in isolation. This final painting will challenge students to apply their understanding of material, light, color, and spatial relationships while creating a cohesive and visually engaging work in oil.
