Time : 1:30PM – 4:30PM CDT on Sat — Take a big step up in your portrait and figure studies by studying both! The class will be devoted to solving some of the recurring issues that come up in portraiture and figure drawing, using gesture and comparative measurement to capture the solid aspect of the head, placement of the features, and proportion and gesture of the full figure. Using vine charcoal or graphite pencils–or oil or pastel pencils, it’s up to you! –students will learn to draw the biggest parts of the head and figure first, using the hand mirror and a plumb line as invaluable tools. Mapping the shape of the shadows and blocking in the darks, students will proceed to modeling their work using light and dark. In the eight-week class, four weeks will be devoted to a portrait pose. Four weeks will be devoted to a nude figure pose. Students will have the option to draw or paint the nude figure or to draw or paint the portrait. The class will also include learning from one of the masters of charcoal drawing by doing a copy (as homework) to be reviewed in class with me. I’ll send you a good quality photo of a master drawing and those who would like (it’s not a requirement) will copy it and receive input and instruction. Special Notes There is a $80 non-refundable model fee. This class will meet in our 3rd floor studio.. Required Supplies Supply List
