About this event

Even when the bomb plot of July 1944 came close to killing Hitler, many Germans branded the army officers involved as traitors, though by then Germany was being reduced to rubble. On the other hand, many within Germany and from many other nations considered Adolf Hitler a satanic figure. It is alleged that between 1921 and 1945 over 50 assassination attempts failed to kill the Fuhrer. Hitler’s assassination fears led to the growth of the SS Lifeguard detachment from a few men to a division. In April 1945 a remnant of this force was still on duty at the Fuhrer’s Berlin bunker when Hitler, the target of these numerous assassination plots, finally ended his own life by shooting himself.  PRESENTER: DR.
