BUY TICKETSBack in March, Mafalda packed them in to Pangea. For everyone who was there and wants to come back, Mafalda Minnozzi returns on Friday, October 16 to the stage that welcomed her so warmly. She is joined by her longtime musical partner and guitarist, Paul Ricci, fresh off their appearance at the New York Cabaret Convention at the Rose Theater."Voci di Donne-Dive” ("Voices of Women, Voices of Divas") is Mafalda's tribute to the women who forever changed the way we sing about love, longing, and freedom. The journey begins in Rio de Janeiro, where Mafalda made her Brazilian debut in 1996 and the city she has carried in her heart ever since. There, the Bossa nova and saudade of Elis Regina, Elizeth Cardoso, and Astrud Gilberto come back to life. Then it's off to Paris, with the raw emotion of Édith Piaf, the elegance of Dalida, and the cosmopolitan voice of Caterina Valente. The heart of the evening beats in Italy, Mafalda's homeland. The music moves from the Neapolitan passion of Lina Sastri to Mina and Ornella Vanoni, the great interpreters who had the whole world singing along. Then come the voices of classic Italian cinema: Edda Dell'Orso, the wordless voice behind Ennio Morricone's film scores, and Katyna Ranieri. The journey ends right here in New York, the city of jazz, with Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and Diana Krall.Between songs, Mafalda shares the stories of these extraordinary women and weaves them together with her own. She brings forty years of music-making across Italy, Brazil, and the United States, and she sings in many languages as if each one were her own. Paul Ricci is a guitarist, arranger, and producer who has been by her side for thirty years. The conversation between Mafalda's voice and Paul's guitars turns every song into something fresh and intimate.American audiences have come to know Mafalda through leading jazz radio stations such as WBGO, KUVO, WUCF, and KJAZ. Her latest album, Riofonic, was recorded in Rio with legends Roberto Menescal, Jaques Morelenbaum, and Kassin. Mafalda was the highest ranked female vocalist on the year-end 2025 JazzWeek USA radio chart.‘Minnozzi is boundlessly expressive, connecting to each lyric viscerally, regardless of language. It’s that same uninhibited energy she brings to the stage, where everything including body language and gesture heightens the emotional impact of her delivery. Minnozzi’s approach to a song is one of a kind.‘ – David Adler (editor-in-chief, JazzTimes)‘As a singer, her technique is sublime; she sings not simply with ease, but with faculty, as only very few singers in the world can do.’ –Raul Da Gama (Latin Jazz Network)Venue details. All Sales Are Final.
