About this event
One of 100 upcoming events at pARTiculars Art Gallery and Teaching Studio.
This is a series of three-day portrait drawing classes offered for beginners or those with drawing experience who want further instruction. Instructor: Laurie Adams (www.loreleiarts.us) Adults & Teens 15 and over – Min 2, max 8 Prerequisite: This is a series of three classes suitable for beginners or for those with some drawing experience who want a refresher or further experience with drawing. Materials Fee: None Description: 3-days portrait drawing class (One class a week over 3 weeks.) This is not your average portrait drawing class. This class teaches portrait drawing in a way that is easier for beginners to pick up and understand. There will be some traditional drawing instruction but there will also be some practical instruction based on Laurie Adams own method for portrait drawing based on her many years of self-taught experience combined with her fine arts training. • Day 1 – Drawing tips and tricks: This day will cover the basics of drawing a portrait, beginning with composition and learning how to choose a good reference photo. You will learn how to draw the correct proportions of the face, mark making and different methods of transferring images to begin a drawing. Drawing supplies will be discussed and tips and tricks for how different effects can be achieved in your drawing for the best results. If there is time, your portrait will be started, but it may just be drawing practice in this first class. • Day 2 – Starting a portrait: Once reference images have been selected, your portrait will be started. Instruction will go more in depth as to how to create details in a portrait, hair, features, depth & shading, etc. This will be all drawing and learning as we draw. As we draw this will lead to ‘teaching moments’ regarding subjects such as how to draw ‘teeth,’ ‘hair,’ ‘eyes,’ etc. • Day 3 – Fine tuning the final portrait: Portraits done well take time, so this class is for adding depth, additional details and/or shading, and other fine tuning of the portrait. If possible, we will try to finish the portraits in this last class. Further instruction will be provided. Everyone works at different paces. If a drawing is not finished, I will provide notes as to what tips are needed to finish the drawing at home. Bring to class: All supplies will be provided. Please bring three or four reference photos of subjects, a person, you would like to draw. A clear image, head shot (head & shoulders), no pets. Printed copies, 8-1/2”x 11”, no just in your phone. If you do not have a printer, contact the instructor ahead of time to print for you. Reference photos can also be provided by the instructor if you need ideas. It does not need to be someone you know. It can be a celebrity for example. Contact: Laurie Adams, email: [email protected] , phone #720-326-0729
