Sashiko is a great craft for beginners and experienced alike, but familiarity with using needle and thread is preferred but not required. The techniques was first seen in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1867). It was used by farming and fishing people to make and repair textiles and work wear. The basics are easy and wonderfully meditative. Sashiko is well suited for visible mending and embellishment.
