Instructor: Tara Jon Manning (tarajonmanning.com) Ages: young adult, adultClass Size: Minimum 2, Maximum 8• Prerequisite: None; class is open to all levels Materials Fee: All materials included Description: Sashiko is a traditional Japanese form of embroidery that uses a simple running stitch and geometric patterns. The basics are easy and wonderfully meditative. Sashiko was first seen in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1867) and was used by farming and fishing people to make and repair textiles and work wear. This one session workshop is a great for beginners and experienced alike. We will review the history of Sashiko, the traditional materials and the basic patterns used. Familiarity with using needle and thread is preferred. Sashiko is well suited for visible mending and embellishment.
