Accessing History: A Community Conversation

What does it mean for history to be truly accessible? CANDOR, the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice, and Whistle Stop Tours invite community members to a conversation about accessibility and the Roots and Soul: Walking with Pauli Murray tour. We want to hear from people who have participated in the tour and people who have considered participating but were unsure whether the experience would be accessible to them. Together, we’ll explore accessibility broadly—including physical, sensory, cognitive, communication, social, financial, and other barriers that can shape whether and how someone participates. This conversation is an opportunity to share experiences, identify barriers, name what supports access, and imagine what the tour could become. Your feedback will directly inform the ongoing accessibility work and future design of the Roots and Soul tour. Pauli Murray’s legacy calls us to examine who has access to history, whose stories are centered, and what barriers remain.
