All Who Serve: African American Soldiers of the American Revolution in the Sourlands Registration: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/y60khbH_Rsydg4-ZYWKl1w From the American Revolution onward, African American men from the Sourland region answered the call to serve, often while their own freedom remained uncertain. Whether they served as substitutes for their enslavers or free men, their service was real, and their stories have largely been missing from how we remember the American Revolution. Join the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) for a look at their ongoing project documenting African American military service connected to the Sourland region. Attendees will also get a preview of the project’s current research into New Jersey’s US Colored Troops during the Civil War. About Our Presenter: Sharece Blakney is the Staff Historian at the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) in Skillman, NJ, specializing in African American life, slavery, and freedom in the late 18th through mid-19th centuries. Her work centers on transforming archival research into public-facing interpretation. SSAAM preserves and shares the history of the African American community of the Sourland Mountain region. Its interpretation spans the full arc of that history, from the Transatlantic slave trade to the present, and draws on archival research and oral history to recover stories that the written record has often left out. Through exhibits, public programs, and digital initiatives, SSAAM connects visitors to the people and places that shaped central New Jersey. Learn more at www.ssaamuseum.org
