Imagine Monuments Opening Celebration

Silver Family Youth and Community Gallery and Finley Learning Studio, Lower Level Join us for a celebration of the creativity and vision of K-12 students from communities along the Columbia River Gorge. Teaching artists with Arts in Education of the Gorge collaborated with Portland Art Museum staff to invite students to explore the questions: What is the purpose of a public monument? To whom does it belong? How does a monument remind us of what we care about and who we are as a community? If you designed a monument, what would it look or feel or sound like? What story would it tell? Their inspiring exhibition–Imagine Monuments–will be on view in the Silver Family Youth and Community Gallery through March 21, 2027. The opening reception will include a performance by Hood River Valley High School Speech & Debate Club, conversations with the artists, and art-making.
