From Poster House

Join Poster House for a conversation with Crystal Worl, Siyo-win, Anna Tsouhlarakis, and Sadie Red Wing, four Indigenous women working across art, design, and public messaging. Presented in connection with the exhibition Designed to Be Red: Native American & Indigenous Poster Works, this discussion will draw on the speakers’ own work and personal stories to explore cultural representation, creative inspiration, community care, and resistance. This conversation will also address how posters have supported activism and created space for Indigenous communities to speak for themselves, as well as where Indigenous poster-making is headed next. Please note: Museum doors for this program will open at 6:15pm. If you’d like to explore the galleries before the event, we encourage you to arrive during regular museum hours (10am–6pm). Tickets to this talk do not include general museum admission. Crystal Worl is Athabascan, Filipino, and Tlingit from Raven moiety, Sockeye Clan, from the Raven House. She is Deg Hit’an Athabascan from Fairbanks Alaska. Worl’s artwork is diverse, ranging from Tlingit Northwest Coast design to contemporary multimedia pieces. Her work often explores themes of identity, connection to land, and the interplay between traditional and modern ways of life. Today Worl lives in Juneau, Alaska, working as a co-owner and co-designer of Trickster Company with her brother Rico Worl. Siyo-win is a Dakota Sioux (Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate) and Mexican artist from Los Angeles. Working in stencil, wheatpaste, silkscreen, murals, and mixed media, she combines bold contemporary aesthetics with cultural storytelling to create work that is both accessible and thought-provoking. She believes art belongs beyond gallery walls and uses public spaces as a way to make Indigenous stories visible in everyday life. She is also a social worker and art therapist currently working at Safe Place for Youth in Venice Beach, where she uses creativity as a tool for healing, connection, and self-expression with young people experiencing homelessness. Anna Tsouhlarakis received her BA from Dartmouth College and her MFA from Yale University. Tsouhlarakis’s work has been featured in national and international exhibitions at venues such as the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Portrait Gallery, and the 2026 Whitney Biennial. She is a 2021 Creative Capital Award recipient, and her other honors include the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship. Tsouhlarakis is an associate professor in the Art and Art History Department at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is Greek, Creek, and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. Sadie Red Wing is a graphic designer and student advocate of the Spirit Lake Dakota and Cheyenne River Lakota Nations. She received her bachelor of fine arts in new media arts and interactive design from the Institute of American Indian Arts and her master of graphic design from North Carolina State University. Red Wing urges Native American graphic designers to express visual sovereignty in their design work and encourages academia to incorporate an Indigenous perspective into design curricula. She is currently a faculty member in the Indigenous Place Keeping and Design and Visual Communication departments at Arizona State University while she obtains a PhD in graphic design at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Accessibility Note: Masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact [email protected] or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs.
