Poster House members are invited to a private “First Look” tour of the exhibition Just Say Nyet: The Soviet Battle Against Booze led by curator B.A. Van Sise. In the waning days of Soviet Russia, its leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, made a last, desperate attempt to curb his nation’s rampant alcoholism through severe restrictions and a broad-reaching, exceptionally blunt advertising campaign. In appeals to their concern for health, common decency, emotional well-being, and industrial production alike, the government begged its people to give up the bottle. It did not succeed. Light refreshments will be served. Accessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. For other event-related questions, please contact info@posterhouse.org.
