About this event

Collective Alaska Native Perspectives (CANP) is an Alaska Native relations training course that covers topics such as cross-cultural communication, true Alaska Native histories, collaborative management, subsistence, applied Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and more. This intensive workshop is an opportunity to connect and learn from Tribal members, Elders, Alaska Native mentors, and expert guest speakers. The training includes hands-on instruction, listening sessions, panels, open discussion, and presentations that foster understanding of Chugach region values. CANP is focused on building relationships and opening conversations among participants, mentors, presenters, and Tribal Elders. The goal of Collective Alaska Native Perspectives is to create a deeper understanding of Alaska Native values, cultural practices, and traditions. Creating stronger relationships with our Chugach Tribes, our regional partners and colleagues, and ourselves is key to building resilient and healthy communities. This is an opportunity to learn about the region’s Alaska Native culture, traditions, and Chugach People from our Chugach People. This perspective is uniquely important to those working in Tribal and rural communities in Alaska, making it vital to educators, researchers, and others working in the spill-affected region. The first Collective Alaska Native Perspectives multi-day course took place in September 2023, in Seward, Alaska. Following workshops took place in Kodiak in April 2024 and Cordova in February 2025. In 2026, Collective Alaska Native Perspectives will be hosted in Homer on April 7th-9th at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. This course is currently being adapted to an online platform as a flexible, streamlined training option, available through the Chugach Regional Resources Commission’s website.
