THE BRAIN CAN CHANGE Rethinking Addiction, Trauma & Recovery Led by: Recovery Coach Dana Demers Format: Presentation + audience discussion + interactive exercise Length: 60-70 minutes Purpose Open the series by challenging some of the most common misconceptions about addiction and recovery. The central message: Addiction is not a character flaw, and recovery is not simply a matter of willpower. The brain, body, relationships and environment all play a role-and the capacity for change doesn't disappear because someone has experienced trauma or addiction. We cannot always change what has happened to us, But with support, science, community, connection, new experiences, and opportunities to create, we can change how we live with what has happened.
