Tchaikovsky Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893) was one of Russia’s greatest composers, celebrated for his unforgettable melodies, rich orchestration, and emotional depth. His symphonies, ballets, and concertos remain among the most beloved and frequently performed works in the classical repertoire. Link to Program notes coming soon ARTIST HIGHLIGHT Robert DeMaine, cello Praised by The New York Times as “an artist who makes one hang on every note,” Robert deMaine is Principal Cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and an internationally acclaimed soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. A frequent guest at leading festivals and concert halls worldwide—including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Berlin Philharmonie, Concertgebouw, and Wigmore Hall—he has performed with many of the world’s foremost conductors and orchestras. Formerly Principal Cellist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for more than a decade, deMaine has collaborated with artists including Hilary Hahn and James Ehnes, recorded for labels such as Naxos and Chandos, and appeared on BBC, PBS, and NPR. A graduate of Juilliard, Eastman, USC, Yale, and the Kronberg Academy, he has won numerous international competitions and performs on the legendary 1684 Antonio Stradivari cello known as the “General Kyd, ex-Leo Stern.” Patrick O’Malley, composer Award-winning composer Patrick O’Malley has been praised as an artist “whose concision…is nothing short of mesmerizing” (The American Prize). Known for his orchestral, chamber, and film music, his works have been performed throughout the United States and Europe by ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Youth Symphony, and numerous regional orchestras. O’Malley is the arranger and conductor for the acclaimed Journey LIVE concert series with Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory, and his music has been featured at American film festivals. His recent projects include The Horizons, recorded by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the feature film score Young & Cursed. A recipient of numerous honors, including first prize in the 2024 European Recording Orchestra Call for Scores in Media Music, O’Malley teaches composition at California State University, Northridge.
