(adults and teens 16 yrs+) Join exhibiting artist Pascale Bouchard for an intimate, interactive demonstration of the encaustic techniques behind her work in Féminin Pluriel. During this approximately 1½-hour presentation, Pascale will introduce participants to the history of encaustic, the materials and tools she uses, and the many ways this ancient medium can be transformed with heat, wax, pigment, texture, and layering. Through a live demonstration, she will share techniques including working and layering wax, image transfers, incorporating paper, photographs, thread and other materials, creating texture and transparency, and using heated tools, brushes, torches and a heat gun to manipulate the wax. This is an interactive artist demonstration rather than a hands-on workshop, so participants will be seated and can ask questions throughout the presentation. Following the demonstration, Pascale will be available for informal conversation and participants will have the opportunity to walk through the Féminin Pluriel exhibit with the artist and hear more about the techniques, stories, and inspiration behind individual works. Whether you are familiar with encaustic or simply curious about how these richly textured works are created, this is a unique opportunity to learn directly from the artist and take a closer look at her creative process. Please note: This event does not include a hands-on art-making component. Féminin Pluriel is a solo exhibition by Québec-based artist Pascale Bouchard featuring her distinctive encaustic work inspired by floral imagery, organic forms, transformation and the symbolic power of the feminine. This event is FREE to attend, but registration is required. A suggested donation of $10 helps support Reeves-Reed Arboretum and its ongoing art exhibits and programs. Donate here.
