About this event
One of 8 upcoming events at Noble Maritime Collection, and 6,797 across New York City.
Join the Noble Maritime Collection for a special Photo-Walk led by photographer and Oceanus co-curator Michael McWeeney. Inspired by the maritime landscape and the working waterfront of New York Harbor, this program invites participants to explore the Staten Island Ferry and the harbor through the lens of photography. Participants will meet with Noble staff in the St. George area for a brief introduction to the program and an informal photography discussion before setting out to photograph the waterfront and ferry terminal. The group will then board the Staten Island Ferry for a round-trip journey between St. George and Whitehall, offering opportunities to experiment with composition, perspective, light, movement, and the ever-changing landscape of New York Harbor. The Staten Island Ferry is a prominent element of the Noble Maritime Collection's current Oceanus exhibition, which celebrates the visual and cultural character of the harbor. Following the Photo-Walk, participants are invited to return to the museum and explore Oceanus to see how artists have interpreted the same maritime environment. Schedule 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM – Meet Noble staff and other participants at the “EO” sculpture in Empire Outlets 1:30 - 2:00 PM – Ride Staten Island Ferry from St. George to Whitehall, with time for photography 2:00 - 2:30 PM – Ride return Ferry to St. George Ferry Terminal 3:30 PM – Photo-Walk outing concludes 4:00pm - 4:30pm – Participants are invited back to the Noble Maritime Collection for a gallery Walk with Michael McWeeney through the Oceanus Exhibit. Whether you are an experienced photographer or simply interested in seeing New York Harbor from a new perspective, this Photo-Walk offers a unique opportunity to look closely at one of New York City's most iconic maritime landscapes.
