From publicly posted calendar Checked 9 hours ago
About this event
One of 8 upcoming events at Noble Maritime Collection, and 6,800 across New York City.
Join us on Saturday, November 21 at 1pm as we conclude our exploration of what the “weary sailors” of Snug Harbor did in their retirement. Teresa Caliari will lead a mini tour of basket weaving and musical artifacts in the museum. Then Bob Wright will teach us about sea shanties - traditional work songs that sailors sang to keep rhythm while they worked. Bob will be our shanty man as we weave baskets singing traditional songs collected from the retired sailors living at Snug Harbor. This workshop is FREE. We ask that you consider giving a donation to the museum. This workshop is made possible by a DCLA Art Fund Grant from Staten Island Arts, with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
