Each November, movie fans celebrate the hallmark antiheroes, femme fatales, moral complexities, and the stunning black & white cinematography of film noir. Free popcorn will be served, and a discussion will follow each screening. NOV05: The Killers (Robert Siodmak, 1946, 103 minutes) Adapted from an Ernest Hemingway short story, an insurance investigator pieces together the tragic life of an ex-boxer named “the Swede,” revealing how he was drawn into the underworld. NOV19: Pickup on South Street (Samuel Fuller, 1953, 80 minutes) A pickpocket, played by Richard Widmark in top form, unwittingly steals a top-secret microfilm from a courier on a New York subway, making himself the prime target of both a Communist spy ring and government agents.
