Sofia works as a location scout for a TV pilot filming in New York City. It’s her job to find the homes, businesses, and exteriors where the show will be filmed. Driving around the city’s different neighborhoods, she enters the private spaces of strangers to photograph their cozy apartments and eclectic shops, stepping into the fabric of their lives while trying to satisfy the demands of her erratic employers. Over a day filled with these encounters, Sofia witnesses moments of curiosity, vulnerability, and quiet tension until her work takes a sudden, personal turn. Drawing from her own experience as a location scout, writer-director Paula González-Nasser captures the poetry and costs of being a young creative. Her celebrated directorial debut The Scout crafts a contemplative exploration of urban disconnection, following one woman’s journey through other people’s worlds as she struggles to find her own. “Fantastic… a fascinating discovery… feels less constructed than it does conjured out of the quietly authentic experiences of modern life and work… often deeply, witheringly funny.” – The Playlist “More than a movie about filmmaking… Paula González-Nasser’s debut, THE SCOUT, inspired by her own time finding locations for projects in New York City, is so refreshing: It doesn’t feel like a film about working in film. It feels like something far more universal.” – A/V Club LAS version: Sunday, October 18 at 5:15 PM English dialogue with Spanish subtitles, making the film accessible to both English- and Spanish-speaking audiences. Versión LAS: domingo 18 de octubre a las 5:15 p. m. Diálogos en inglés con subtítulos en español, para que la película sea accesible tanto para el público angloparlante como para el público hispanohablante. Open-caption screening: Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30 PM Note films start right at the listed showtime. Free or discounted for members. All ticket sales are final.
