Saturday, October 10, 2026 10am-12pm Conservatory of Flowers (Meet-up Location) RSVP Required About the Program Join Christopher Pollock, Historian-in-Residence for the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, on a walking tour of Golden Gate Park’s east end. The walk is of easy-to-moderate difficulty and includes an overview of the park’s history. The tour starts at the Conservatory of Flowers (1879), the oldest public building in the park, and finishes at the Music Concourse, where Pollock will discuss the creation of its racetrack-shaped bowl. The tour will also explore the National AIDS Memorial Grove, the Shakespeare Garden, and much more! Details will be sent out to registrants before the event. About the Guide In 2020, Christopher Pollock published an update to his 2001 book, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park: A Thousand and Seventeen Acres of Stories, in celebration of the Park’s 150th anniversary. He practiced interior architecture before uncovering his talent for historical research and writing and becoming the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department’s first Historian-in-Residence. — RSVP required.
