@ ✨ Experience the Magic of Learning! ✨ Join us for a special sensory-friendly workshop with Kevin Spencer’s Hocus Focus, a one-of-a-kind program where magic meets imagination! World-renowned illusionist and educator Kevin Spencer combines the wonder of magic with the power of discovery, creativity, and confidence-building. This interactive experience invites children and families of all abilities to explore how simple tricks can unlock big ideas — inspiring curiosity, laughter, and a little bit of everyday magic. In this 45-minute session, Kevin shares captivating magic tricks, followed by hands-on activities where students learn simple magic tricks. These activities are carefully designed to enhance cognitive, motor, communication, and social skills while fostering creativity. In partnership with the Lensic Performing Arts Center, the Hocus Focus program works with special education classrooms and adults with disabilities in Santa Fe and Albuquerque for four weeks each year and reaches over 900 individuals. Kevin Spencer, Ph.D., is an award-winning performing artist, educator, and researcher with more than 25 years of experience combining artistry, education, and therapeutic practice. Today, Dr. Spencer is a leading authority on the educational and therapeutic use of simple magic tricks to empower individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, intellectual challenges, emotional disturbances, and trauma histories. He holds degrees in Psychology, Interdisciplinary Education, and Special Education, along with certifications in Neuropsychology, Autism Studies, and Trauma Support. Kevin Spencer is a teaching artist, researcher, speaker, consultant, and award-winning film producer as well as faculty in the Special Education program at Carlow University (PA) where he teaches a course on the intersection of the arts for special populations. He is also a world-renowned illusionist and is widely considered the leading authority on the educational and therapeutic benefits of magic tricks in education and rehabilitation. His work has taken him around the world where he has conducted professional development training for educators, interactive classroom activities for students, and continuing education workshops for rehabilitation specialists. He is a regular speaker at international education and healthcare conferences and believes in the power of the arts to bring transformative experiences to people of all abilities. He is the creator of Hocus Focus and Healing of Magic and holds a Certification in Autism Studies. This program is included with regular Museum admission.
