Image courtesy of the artist. The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art presents Donté Hayes: Ancestral Tomorrows from March 5 – April 17, 2026. The public is invited to a pair of events related to the exhibition on Thursday, March 5: An artist’s talk at 3 p.m. in Gorgas Library’s Camellia Room An opening reception from 4:30-6 p.m. in 103 Garland Hall Ceramist Donté Hayes graduated summa cum laude from Kennesaw State University and holds his MFA from the University of Iowa. His sculptures function, in his words, as “‘future artifacts’ that remix ancestral traditions, respond to contemporary realities, and envision resilient futures.” The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art is supported by the Barefield College of Arts and Sciences and the department of art and art history and is an essential part of the education and development of UA students and our community. Admission to the gallery is free. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. when school is in session. The gallery is at 103 Garland Hall in the heart of UA campus in Woods Quad. Information about visitor parking is available on the UA Parking Services website. The SMGA invites you to visit us for a class, an opportunity to look at art, or just a quiet, meditative respite from the outside world. Visitors are welcome to wear masks inside the gallery.
