Nacha Mendez Trio Nacha’s music is an expression of her curiosity, her varied experience and restless passion for living. It refuses to fit neatly into any one genre, fearlessly drawing on a wide range of influences to expand the definition of Latin music. Yet filtered through her powerful voice, these various threads come together in a single unified expression. Jerry Weimer is a Santa Fe–based composer, clarinetist, and saxophonist celebrated for his expressive improvisation and remarkable versatility. From funk with Pollo Frito to jazz, salsa, and classical clarinet, his dynamic performances span genres with ease. Joining forces with Nacha Mendez, he brings an adventurous blend of Latin spoken word, timeless classics, and inventive musical exploration. Fred Simpson is a master percussionist and certified Djembefola whose distinguished career includes performances with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Jacob’s Pillow, the Kennedy Center, and the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. Trained in Guinea by legendary drummer Mamady Keita, Fred is an expert in West African and Afro-Cuban percussion. Now based in Santa Fe, he performs with leading Latin jazz and salsa ensembles and joins Nacha Mendez for this special one-night-only performance. free / all ages
