Apples Over the Alden Hearth – A Taste of Home in the New World (Duxbury)

Celebrate the fall season with the sights and smells of apples cooking over a hearth fire at the Alden House Historic Site on Saturday, October 3 from 1 to 3 pm. This program explores the recipes and memories John and Priscilla Alden would have brought with them from England, and how they may have recreated familiar dishes to give themselves a taste of home in the New World. Visitors can enjoy this demonstration in the new Alden Center for Living History and take home a recipe to try a colonial dish in their own kitchen. The program is led by Alexandra Cervenak, a foodways historian who specializes in the food of the Pilgrims and making it accessible for modern audiences. Alexandra has worked for Plimoth Patuxet Museums and currently serves with the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. This event is included with museum admission.
