FoodCraft: A Hands-On Pottery & Spice-Blending Workshop (Plymouth)

Explore the sights, scents, and skills of the 17th century in this hands-on program at Plimoth Patuxet Museums. Discover how herbs were grown, prepared, and used in early New England, and learn about the vessels, tools, and practices that were part of everyday life. Join us in the Craft Center to decorate your own herb stripping bowl – a modern tool designed to make quick work of removing leaves from whole herbs. Using the historic ceramic technique of slip trailing, you’ll create raised designs with liquid clay inspired by decorative motifs found on period ceramics. Then, get a head start on holiday gifting as you explore historical recipes featuring herbs and spices and prepare your own 17th-century-inspired blends to take home or share with others. Connect with the past through hands-on making and discover how familiar plants, ingredients, and everyday objects can reveal stories about life in early New England. Best suited for 16 & up.
