From the rugged peaks of Spider Ranch to remote cow camps, they bring to life the humor, grit, and heart of daily ranching. Blending classic and original cowboy songs with poetry and personal stories, their performance celebrates Western traditions and the land that shapes them—inviting audiences to experience the rhythms, landscapes, and enduring spirit of the West. Gail Steiger and Amy Hale each bring a lifetime of ranching, storytelling, and creative work to the stage. Gail, foreman of Arizona’s 50,000-acre Spider Ranch, was raised on local ranches and comes from a lineage of ranchers and songwriters. His grandfather, Gail Gardner, wrote classic cowboy songs and was named Arizona’s “Poet Lariat.” Gail is also a singer, songwriter, and award-winning filmmaker; his project Ranch Album earned a CINE Golden Eagle award. He shares cowboy stories and music throughout the Southwest and internationally. Amy Hale has spent years raising her children in ranch camps and has worked as a cowboy on Spider Ranch for 18 years. She is an accomplished author of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Together, Gail and Amy live the cowboy life that inspires their songs, stories, and writing—offering audiences a rare and genuine glimpse into the modern West. About Twilight Tales: Twilight Tales is an ongoing evening series that brings history to life through engaging, afterhours programs at Sharlot Hall Museum—each offering a unique approach to storytelling.
