From Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community

Inspired by the ancient practice of reusing materials, this workshop introduces the art technique of Palimpsest - a layered approach that reveals traces of what came before. Through intuitive exploration and shifting perspectives, participants will be guided through a reflective, hands-on process to uncover and express inner narratives. Students will learn to blend diverse elements like paint, paper, fabric, and found objects to create a unique mixed-media visual artifact representing your inner experience, intuition and personal narratives. Supplies: A variety of material, paper and art supplies will be provided. Students can bring personal cards, letters, clips from books or magazines, and any ephemera or written mementos that you wish to incorporate in your artwork, and should wear an apron or clothes that can get paint on them. Participants may also bring their own journals and sketchbooks if they wish to. Instructor Bios: In addition to her 22 years of teaching literature, composition, creative writing, journalism, and film studies at American River and Sierra Community Colleges, Dawn Blunk's previous careers in producing and directing local film projects and nearly a decade covering the arts scene for Sacramento Magazine-intersect with her additional studies in depth psychology and current work leading depth-oriented creative processing/ writing workshops. Infused with embodiment and somatic movement practices, these experiences are intended to develop artistic expressions and connections to self. Gia Herndon has been a practicing psychotherapist for 25 years, and for 10 of those years a university-level teacher in the fields of psychology and counseling psychology. her work and life are inspired by depth psychology, somatic practices and play, which expand and enliven all areas of her life including relationship to self, connection, and creativity.
