SkiJouring Silverton 2027

Horses. Skis. Blair Street. Zero brakes. Every February, the craziest race in the San Juans takes over downtown Silverton. One horse, one rider, and one skier holding a rope tear down a snow-covered Blair Street at 35–45+ mph. The skier hits jumps and tries to grab rings on a baton, ideally without crashing and burning. It’s water skiing, if the boat had hooves and a cowboy. Silverton Skijoring started in 2010 with a few hundred spectators. Now it’s the biggest winter event in town, drawing 2,500+ people from Durango, Ouray, Ridgway, Montrose, and beyond. It’s run 100% by volunteers as a 501(c)(3), and the whole point is keeping Silverton’s winter economy strong. That’s a cause we can get behind.
