Library Book Discussion: Charity and Sylvia by Tillie Walden Join us at the Springfield Town Library on Monday, April 19, at 6:00 p.m. for a community discussion of Charity and Sylvia by award-winning Vermont author and cartoonist Tillie Walden, facilitated by Vermont Humanities discussion leader Rachael Cohen. Set in Weybridge, Vermont, in 1807, Charity and Sylvia tells the remarkable true story of Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake, who shared their lives as devoted partners in a small Vermont community for 44 years. Drawing on archival materials from the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History and other historical sources, Walden's acclaimed graphic novel brings their story to life while exploring the broader history of 19th-century America. Together, we'll explore the book's themes of Vermont's early history, friendship, family, faith, resilience, and the evolving understanding of LGBTQ+ identity. Whether you're a longtime fan of graphic novels or reading one for the first time, all are welcome to join the conversation. Copies of the book are available to borrow from the Springfield Town Library. Registration is appreciated but not required.
