About this event

Arts & Culture

This art history survey class will introduce you to the world of Contemporary Art. While art theory will be discussed in class in connection with the cultural and historical contexts of each art piece, the focus of the course will be to visually deconstruct the artworks presented in class. We will start by reviewing the roots of Contemporary Art in the Modern Art movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Then we will dive into Contemporary Art beginning in the 1970s. A series of images will be presented every class with a list of terms corresponding to the art being studied. Students will engage in class discussion regarding each presented piece. All students welcome, regardless of prerequisites. Instructor: Jorge Costa Fridays, 12:30-2 pm Six classes: May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, June 5 Register
