What does it take to be an artist of the natural world? Who has the skills needed to capture the detail of the world around them? How can someone gain these skills? Sonya Vickers believes that all you need to be a documenter of the natural world is a journal, patience, and the ability to observe. Sonya is a retired high school biology teacher who has had a lifelong interest in the natural world. She is a member of the Springfield Naturalists’ Club and finds materials to draw on their frequent hikes.  For more than 30 years she has kept a drawn journal of the things she has seen on trails in the forest, desert and mountain top. It is her belief that if you take the time to draw something through observation you will learn a lot from it.  Although she has had no formal art education, the patience of observation has given her the practice to draw her birds, flowers, bugs and microscopic organisms in detail. To her, the art of seeing is more important than the art itself. Presented by Sonya Vickers, educator and member, Springfield Naturalists’ Club Join us in-person or online!
