Empowering Black Entrepreneurship: A South Carolina Book Tour

Experience an evening of knowledge and connection at Stormwater Studios on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 6:30–8 p.m. during Empowering Black Entrepreneurship: A South Carolina Book Tour. The event will feature three authors and community leaders sharing insights on literature, entrepreneurship, storytelling, and economic empowerment. Featured Speakers Dr. Walter Curry, author of South Carolina’s Matilda A. Evans: A Medical Pioneer, is an educator, historian, and founder of Renaissance Publications & Educational Programs, LLC. Originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina, Dr. Curry explores African American history through family ancestry and storytelling. He is the author of three award-winning books and has worked with organizations across South Carolina to bring local history and educational programming to communities. His work has received numerous honors, including Literary Titan Awards and recognition as one of South Carolina State University’s “40 Under 40.” Tayler Simons, founder of Liberation Is Lit Bookstore and author of Writing Our Truths: A Guide to Self-Publishing for BIPOC Writers, supports authors and readers while creating opportunities for BIPOC writers to share their stories and perspectives. Dr. Charlene Sims, author of The New Black Wall Street, is a Columbia, South Carolina-based literary artist, memoir author, motivational speaker, and podcast host. She holds a Doctor of Business Administration from South University and is the creator of the “From the Clay to the Crown” framework and host of Dr. Decorum: The Highest Degree of Etiquette. Through her writing, spoken word, and community programming, she encourages others to discover and share their stories. She also serves on nonprofit boards and is the founder of Time Is of the Essence, LLC. An Evening of Learning, Connection, and Empowerment Together, the speakers will share insights on self-publishing, South Carolina history, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment, offering attendees an opportunity to learn from local leaders and authors while connecting with others in the community. All community members are welcome to join us for an evening of networking, learning, and inspiration.
