DOWNHILL RACER WITH CAROLINE LALIVE AND SPECIAL GUEST

Starts at $46 At full speed, there is no room for hesitation. The 1969 classic Downhill Racer plunges audiences into the exhilarating, high-stakes world of international ski racing, where ambition can be as dangerous as the mountain itself. Robert Redford stars as David Chappellet, a gifted but fiercely independent Colorado skier whose pursuit of Olympic glory puts him at odds with U.S. Ski Team coach Eugene Claire, played by Gene Hackman. Redford’s performance was one of three that earned him the 1971 BAFTA Award for Best Actor. After the screening of the film, go beyond the Hollywood story during a live Q&A with Steamboat local Caroline Lalive and a special guest. Lalive competed in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics, placing seventh in the combined event at Nagano, and qualified for the 2006 Games before an injury prevented her from competing. Together, the athletes will reveal what it truly takes to race downhill—from controlling fear and making split-second decisions to confronting crashes, injuries, pressure, and the relentless drive to be faster. They will also share how the film’s depiction of elite ski racing compares with their own experiences on some of the sport’s most demanding courses.
