About this event
One of 180 upcoming events at Summit Historical Society, and 620 across Summit County.
What if the story of Frisco’s first cabin has been missing a few chapters? Henry Recen, known as the “Old Swede,” is commonly credited with building the first cabin in Frisco, while his wife, Katie, is remembered as the first white woman in the area. But Henry wasn’t alone. His brothers, Andrew and Daniel Recen, also made their way west, and their story is rarely told. Join Jean Adams as she follows the Recen brothers’ remarkable journey from Sweden to the Kansas prairie, Central City, Idaho Springs, and ultimately the Ten Mile Canyon Mining District. Along the way, discover a story filled with a town that burns, a mysterious post office name, a lost silver mine, an unexpected invention—and a laughing ghost! Come uncover the lesser-known chapters of the Recen family and the colorful characters and mysteries woven into Summit County’s early history.
