Workshops

About the Demo Haleh’s natured-inspired encaustic painting glow with unique shapes, depth and color. Her process includes multiple layers of hot wax and color, as well as scraping techniques. Some works feature found-objects for their texture and fossil-like appearance. Others are the result of her use of a butane torch to creates a magical alchemy of her materials.  Haleh’s paintings can start with an image and become landscape, or she may respond solely to the play of the materials as they move under her hands to create an abstract design. Haleh will show three different techniques, all starting with a gesso-primed wood panel. Some of the demonstration will take place outside to allow for safe use of the butane torch and shellac coating.      Artist Statement My work uses a variety of layered textures and contrasting colors, as well as merging of materials to create something entirely new. I am particularly attracted to analogous color schemes. My inspiration for many of my pieces is images of trees from winters in Chicago, the mountains of Western North Carolina, and the California Redwoods.  I love the variety of encaustic painting techniques: while working I have the experience of watercolor painting, ceramics (scraffito) printing, and oil painting, all with one medium.
