From Texans on Mission

Texans on Mission Disaster Relief Chaplain Training involves three days of learning to listen to others, take care of yourself and others, manage stress, and more. This is an interactive training session with role-play and discussion expected. The training is for experienced TXM Disaster Relief volunteers (minimum two deployments, local or beyond) with a recommendation from their unit leader (Blue Cap) and a leader from the church you attend. (More details below.) The training in Kerrville will be in a "deployment-like" fashion. Participants will need a cot, bedding, and other essentials. A shower and feeding unit will be on site. A light snack will be provided Thursday, as well as meals and snacks throughout the training. Things to bring: Bible, cot, bedding, medications, completed medical form, chaplain manual (hard copy or digital). The manual link will be provided once all of your recommendation forms have been received and approved. The deadline for our chaplaincy coordinator to receive all of your forms and register you is Nov. 1. 1. Complete the initial application form below to begin the process. Include the names, phone numbers and email addresses for your Blue Cap, church representative and yourself. 2. After submitting the form below, you will receive links for the three detailed forms to be completed by your Blue Cap (recommendation), church representative (recommendation) and yourself (application). 3. Share the links with your Blue Cap and church representative, and they will return them to the TXM Chaplaincy Coordinator. 4. Complete the form for yourself and return it to the Chaplaincy Coordinator. 5. The Chaplaincy Coordinator will review the two recommendations and your application and notify you after review. Approved chaplain candidates will receive a link to the Chaplain Training Handbook. This entire process will be accompanied by prayer because this is God's work with God's called people. Target Audience: Texans on Mission DR volunteers who have a calling from God to give emotional and spiritual support during a crisis. A 16-hour (2-3 night stay) training course with the Chaplain Coordinator. Each participant is required to read the Chaplain Manual before attending. Pre-registration online is required. Basic Chaplaincy is a role-playing and discussion format that will equip participants to give emotional and spiritual support to those who have encountered disasters. We focus on various aspects, including but not limited to stages of development, needs, recognizing signs of stress and trauma, things you do and do not do or say, cultural issues, types of disasters, storytelling, listening skills, etc. Come prepared to discuss and interact by reading your manual and answering the questions. This form is no longer available. It was closed for further submissions on 10/17/2026.
