Never miss a Sunday show. So goes the old Deadhead saying—and it definitely applies to Shakedown Sunday, a monthly gathering at 443 Social Club. Shakedown Sunday is a monthly series hosted by Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers and members of Dead to the Core, with special guests, that celebrates the Grateful Dead—not just the band’s originals but songs from across the roots and rock worlds they made their own. Jes Sheldon started singing in church when she was just three. She won CNY Radio Group’s ultimate idol contest in 2010. She was the lead vocalist of Thistle Dew, a blues/rock band out of Chenango County, as well as a founding member of the Lightkeepers, winners of the 2016 Brian Bourke Award for Best New Artist at the Syracuse Area Music Awards. Her current projects include Transient Kicks and Jes Sheldon and the Stewards of Sol. “When the music kicks in, a freedom shows up in this woman that makes what she’s doing qualify as high art.
