Petunia & the Vipers’ sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre, but “Good Music” describes it well. Hank Williams on acid… Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction. Avant-Country night club scene music. One of the best bands in the world today, of any kind(quote from Phil Alvin) hillbilly-flavoured-swing-inflected ragtime-goodtime thunderouslyrolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show. A new music that springboards off of music of the past and jumps into the present day, left with only echoes of the past… Something in between 1920’s and steam punk. It’s good for your mind. These are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is Petunia & The Vipers. “Watching Petunia felt dangerous. The band, a mismatch of outlaw-looking musicians dressed for a bank robbery somewhere west of the Mississippi, seemed less assembled than summoned from some ancient American underworld. Lowered white Stetsons and dark waistcoats and loosened ties and tattooed arms. When they walked onto the stage, Petunia smiled at the spectators. He drew a quiet breath and then asked for the lights to be switched off. I’m not sure how to prove this, but I’m convinced that the entire set was part of a conjuring ritual. We were left there in the dark, looking up at the band as they performed their black and beautiful magic. This is not hyperbole. I truly felt that Petunia was a magician capable of rolling time and space the way he rolled his cigarettes. Halfway through the show, Petunia told the story of Billy the Kid, and for about fifteen minutes, I could not move my neck. I became completely transfixed. I was there. I was with Billy. And every time Petunia pointed his finger gun and fired, the scene changed. Another time. Another place. Another life. And the only way back was if Petunia said so.” Amal Alhomsi Website petuniaandthevipers.com https://www.facebook.com/PetuniaTheVipers https://www.instagram.com/petuniaandthevipers/ https://petuniamusic.bandcamp.com/album/petunia-and-the-vipers https://open.spotify.com/artist/2JDarI9qY84dvRGKWAbeXz https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFN-GHbK0OIo8WpoZ3cKZUw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXDAln4BNRE
