Kayak Mangrove Discovery Tour with Armando Ubeda | UF/IFAS (Presented in Spanish) Saturday, September 26 No Registration Required This event is a part of Pura Vida Weekend at The Bay and will be presented in Spanish. UF/IFAS Sea Grant Director Armando Ubeda will lead a Mangrove Discovery experience featuring a land-based ecological introduction followed by a tour through the Mangrove Bayou on kayaks. Celebrando el Mes de la Herencia Hispana (del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre). About UF/IFAS Sea Grant Director Armando Ubeda Armando is the Sarasota County Florida Sea Grant Extension Agent III. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marine sciences from the University of Mobile’s Latin American campus and a master’s degree in marine resource management from Oregon State University. His research as a Ph.D. student in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida focuses on shark behavior and population structure. His Extension program focuses on the Florida Master Naturalist Program, Living Shorelines, Sustainable Fisheries, Marine Resource Conservation, Marine Debris prevention, and Water Quality/Quantity. He brings his experience and training to these courses from his time as a coral reef researcher in Nicaragua, from his time as a staff biologist at the Department of Shark Research at Mote Marine Laboratory in the USA, and from his former position as a Mesoamerican Program Manager for a conservation organization called LightHawk. About Pura Vida Weekend at The Bay A weekend filled with multi-generational wellness events designed to bring together individuals, parents, children, grandparents through movement, mindfulness, creativity, nature exploration and community connection. Pura Vida Weekend events will be presented in Spanish About Hispanic Heritage Month at the Bay Enjoy a vibrant lineup of free programs celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. With live performances, movies, and wellness classes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Hispanic Heritage Month at The Bay is presented by High Foundation. Know Before You Go: The Bay address is 1131 Blvd of the Arts, Sarasota 34236 FREE Parking is available in the parking lots in front of the Van Wezel and in front of the Municipal Auditorium, Art Center and Blue Pagoda. Please avoid parking in designated Sarasota Orchestra parking areas and along the south side of Blvd of the Arts. Vehicular Access: Enter off the 10th Street Roundabout (as entrance from Blvd of the Arts/ South Van Wezel Way is CLOSED.) Pedestrian access: Follow signs and safely walk on the south side of BOTA, or enter from the parking lot in front of the Van Wezel. Park access: The park remains open during construction. Most walkways, the Ibis Playground and the living resilient shoreline continue to be available for your enjoyment. Construction on several Phase 2 park projects continues to impact walkways, roadways and parking across the site: South Van Wezel Way near the corner of Blvd of the Arts (BOTA) is CLOSED to improve stormwater drainage. The western edges of the parking lot just north of the Van Wezel and the Centennial Park parking lot are CLOSED to create a resilient shoreline. The area between the Municipal Auditorium and Art Center is closed to create a new Town Square. All pets must be non-aggressive and on a leash at all times.
