Marking the 30th anniversary of her death, this concert will bring together members of Eva’s original band including Keith Grimes, Raice McLeod, and Lenny Willams (joined by Nicole Saphos on bass), as well as her friends and collaborators Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer. Featured vocalists paying tribute to Eva include Rochelle Rice, Sara Curtin, Juliet Lloyd, Niav Maher, and Dante’ Pope. Eva Cassidy was a singular talent, a beloved member of the Washington DC area music community, and a rising star that the world lost too soon at the young age of 33 after just a three month battle with cancer. Shortly after her death, The Washington Post wrote that Eva “could sing anything — folk, blues, pop, jazz, R&B, gospel — and make it sound like it was the only music that mattered.” She performed at famous Washington DC music venues like Blues Alley and The Bayou, and released an album of duets with Chuck Brown in 1992. Her other albums – now well known in the US and abroad – were released after her death. She never saw the impact her voice and music has had on the world and future generations of musicians.
