Listen ABOUT THIS SHOW Three-time Grammy Nominee Mike Marshall is one of the most accomplished and versatile mandolinists in the world today, as well as a master of the mandocello, guitar, and violin. A multi-faceted composer and arranger and one of Brazil’s premier 7-string guitarists today, Alessandro Penezzi is a virtuoso on tenor guitar, cavaquinho, mandolin, and flute. Two incredible talents together for one special night. Mike Marshall Three-time Grammy Nominee Mike Marshall is one of most accomplished and versatile mandolinists in the world today as well as a master of the mandocello, guitar and violin. Marshall cut his teeth on traditional American music in Florida and at the age of 19 joined the David Grisman Quintet which included jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli, Tony Rice, Darol Anger, Todd Phillips and Mark O’Connor. Mike went on to create some of the most adventurous new acoustic music in America with his ensembles The Montreux Band, Psychograss, New Grange, The Big Trio, The Modern Mandolin Quartet. During 80s and 90s he recorded for the Rounder, Sugar Hill and Windham Hill labels, toured the most prestigious Bluegrass Festivals in the USA as well as performing art centers throughout the Europe, Japan and South America. Bassist Edgar Meyer and Mike recorded 2 cds for the Sony Classical label with violinist Joshua Bell, mandolinist Sam Bush and banjo wiz Bela Fleck. Mike has spearheaded a global interest in Brazilian Choro music through his recordings with Hamilton de Holanda, pianist Jovino Santos Neto, his publications of books and workshops teaching this style as well as starting his own label, Adventure Music specializing in Brazilian and New Acoustic music. Mike has recorded two CDs and toured with fellow mandolinist Chris Thile and continues his longtime partnership with violinist Darol Anger. In 2007 Mike met his wife, German classical mandolinist Caterina Lichtenberg. They have three CDs together (well as two lovely daughters) and split their time between Germany and California.
