About this event
One of 35 upcoming events at The CheckOut, and 6,946 across Chicago.
ACM's newest production is the Discovery Series which we're calling a "book club for classical music." One of the great things about a book club is discovering books you might never have picked up on your own. Sometimes you love them, sometimes you don't, but the conversation always makes the experience richer. We're bringing that same spirit to classical music of all eras. Our first installment features the breathtaking Adagio from Franz Schubert's *String Quintet in C Major,* written in the final months of his life. One of the most beautiful slow movements ever composed, it moves from an almost otherworldly calm through a turbulent, passionate middle section and back again. ACM Executive Director Seth Boustead will introduce the piece, exploring the composer's life, its historical context, and what makes the music tick. Then our musicians will perform it live. We'll open things up for group discussion before hearing the piece a second time, and continue the conversation at a catered reception afterward.
