UMPHREY’S McGEE – Fresh Cut 2027

From its humble beginnings in South Bend, Indiana, Umphrey’s McGee built its own lane, pairing progressive-rock precision with the risk of nightly improvisation. Songs stretch, collapse, and rebuild themselves. Genres are less rules than ingredients, proving that UM can combine elements of funk, metal, electronic, jazz, and folk and somehow make it all work. The band once titled an album Local Band Does O.K. It’s a characteristically understated joke that says plenty about how seriously they’ve always taken the idea of not taking themselves too seriously. Nearly three decades later, the overachieving local band is still here and doing just fine. With distinctly Midwestern stubbornness, UM has established themselves as one of the most ambitious and musically versatile jam bands in America.
