Rock Lab November 11 | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM | High Five Books | Ages 6–9 (Ages 10+ as CITs) The earth has been making extraordinary things for billions of years. On November 11, we are going to dig in and find out what. Rock Lab is a half-day geology and jewelry making program where young geologists get their hands on real rocks, real minerals, and real science — and then turn their discoveries into something beautiful to wear home. This is not a passive experience. This is hands-on, certified teacher-led earth science where kids scratch, test, identify, and create their way through the remarkable story of the ground beneath their feet. Activities may include: Rock and Mineral Identification — examine real rocks and minerals with magnifying glasses and field guides, identifying specimens like real geologists and discovering the surprising stories each one tells. Mohs Hardness Scale Testing — scratch test a variety of rocks and minerals to determine their hardness on the real scientific scale that geologists use. Which rock scratches which? The answers are always surprising. Jewelry Making — using real rocks, minerals, and gems, young geologists will design and create their very own piece of wearable geology — a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry that tells the story of the earth in the most stylish way possible. Every camper leaves with their handmade jewelry, their crystal growing experiment, and a head full of earth science knowledge that will make them look at every rock they encounter with completely new eyes. 💛 Looking for a full day of earth science exploration? Add Lunch Bunch (12:00–1:00 PM, just $10) and Fossil Lab (1:00–4:00 PM) for a complete and extraordinary day that travels from the rocks beneath our feet all the way back to the creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago. Rock Lab meets November 11 from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM at High Five Books, 141 N Main Street, Florence MA. Current and former students, please register through Tutorbird. New students, register below. Select “1/2 day pop-up program,” then select the correct month (November), date (11th), and time (9am).

Keep exploring
